According to Science Vegans have Better Sex

While there is a growing trend to switch to a vegan plant based diet for environmental and ethical reasons, it turns out that there are some positive benefits which flow through to your sex life.

Yep – the headline obviously gave it away – but vegans do it better. And by better we mean they tend to be more sexually active and can last longer for a whole lot of reasons. So here’s why vegans have better sex.

Vegans have a higher sex drive

The James Cameron documentary The Game Changers reveals that vegans have a higher sex drive.

Many plant based foods help boost blood circulation which in turn can have a positive effect on libido. Stock up on leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, dark vegan chocolate, cayenne and almonds; fantastic sources of vitamin B and zinc, which help elevate testosterone levels and sexual desire.

You can naturally increase your serotonin level (the happy drug) by switching to a vegan diet and this can have a flow on effect of increasing your sexual desire because happy people tend to be horny people.

Vegans have more stamina

Who doesn’t want to last longer between the sheets? A vegan diet that is high in fruit can naturally increase your energy levels by eliminating the sugar crash experienced when eating processed sugar. For example, both avocados and bananas are high in potassium which assists sex hormone production and also boosts energy.

Speaking to Insider, dietician Bonnie Taub-Dix said "We want to look at foods that boost circulation, because not only do we want to boost circulation to your brain - which is your sexiest organ - but it also boosts circulation to other parts of your body that you want to work properly."

A vegan lifestyle can give you more energy and more stamina which can lead to a more sexually satisfying sex life. It sounds like a win, win to us.

Vegans taste & smell better

Science has shown the level of sexual attraction towards someone can be influenced by their scent.  A study in 2006 found that the body odour of men who ate red meat was less pleasant, more intense and less attractive to women than the men who ate a plant based diet. The study was done in two parts where the study participants switched and the meat eaters ate their veggies and the veggie eaters ate meat. The results in both studies were the same.

And don’t forget that what you put into your body can also affect the taste of your semen and vaginal fluids. You can read more in our article What to eat for better tasting oral sex but basically there are certain foods which you should avoid and certain foods which you should consume to make you taste more appealing to your sexual partner/s. Add cranberries, celery, cinnamon, watermelon & pineapple to your diet and avoid meat, dairy and coffee.

Vegans experience less sexual dysfunction

We’ve written before about keeping your penis in peak performance condition. The cholesterol and saturated animal fat found in meats, dairy and eggs can clog your arteries and slow the flow of blood to all of your organs. So eliminating meat and dairy products from your diet is a great way to lower your cholesterol and blood pressure naturally to get everything back in good working order.

The biggest known causes of impotence are high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity and a low-fat vegan diet can help reduce these risks. A study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that men who combine regular exercise with a diet rich in flavonoids, found in fruits like strawberries, blueberries, and apples, might reduce their risk of developing erectile dysfunction by over 20%. And another study of 25,000 men and their diet over 10 years found men who had a diet rich in flavonoids reduced their risk by 11-16%.

Vegans are less stressed and generally happier

A 2012 study found that ditching meat and dairy can improve our mood by naturally increasing serotonin. Research has also found that vegans tend to be more optimistic and have a lower risk of depression, less anxiety and less stress

Confidence is another aspect. If you feel good about yourself, about your body and how you’re fuelling your body then generally your overall confidence will improve. All things which make us more attractive to potential sexual partners.

Serotonin levels are also linked with oxytocin levels, the “love hormone” that creates stronger feelings of intimacy and affection. So you will feel more connected to, and want to be more intimate with, your partner/s.

Diets which include meat and fish are typically higher in arachidonic acid (AA) and research shows that high levels of AA can cause mood disturbing brain changes. To combat the negative effects of AA we need to add more plant sourced omega 3 fatty acids into our diets such as chia, hemp seeds and cauliflower.

The additional benefits of being vegan

Watermelon, cucumber and rockmelon can help hydrate the skin and give you a radiant glow. A vegan diet is also high in vitamin C which is essential for collagen metabolism which helps retain skin’s elasticity and silky smoothness. And fruits and veggies high in antioxidants such as pecans, blueberries, artichokes and kale can help defend your cells against free radicals and inflammation. Goji berries in particular may help to fight skin aging.

Foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as sunflower seeds and raw pumpkin can help reduce menstrual pain and relieve vaginal dryness. Leafy greens can help prevent vaginal dryness and increase stimulation and apples can promote better sexual function, lubrication and the ability to orgasm because of increased blood flow. And the high water content of fruits and vegetables can also naturally increase vaginal lubrication.

Women experiencing fertility issues who switch to a whole food, plant based diet can improve their fertility. The Fertility Diet which was written by Harvard researchers recommends more vegan protein, less animal protein; foods high in fibre and vegan iron rich foods to maximise your chances of falling pregnant.  Sweet potatoes in particular contain high level of vitamin A which is linked to fertility.

So it looks like the key to a steamy love life might start in the kitchen rather than the bedroom. What’s cooking?

Whilst it does improve your sex life, there really are some smelly vegans out there. I’m vegan and rarely get BO. I’d hardly call myself less stressed because of it, but stamina and control is definitely true. I don’t care how people want to live, you do what works for you. My last long term relationship was with a meat eater and she also noticed the positive difference in bed between her past partners and me. It’s a bit of a myth that all vegans are weak because of lack of (insert whatever you think it is here) but I have never been healthier, my energy levels are high, my skin is really good, and where my entire family has heart disease, I have none, and it’s not luck. Might not work for everyone but it certainly does for me

Consumption of red meat is how we evolved as a species. If you want to eat vegan, that's fine. But dont recommend it as a safe way to bring life into this world. We didn't get to where we are as a species by being vegan.

How about recommending a balanced diet of all food groups along with regular exercise?

    Happy Horny Vegan here.
My playmates don't need to be vegan & I do not give my opinion to them.
Am well researched in how to live a vegan lifestyle and stay healthy.

Great to know that shifting towards a more plant based diet has added benefits. I totally agree with the study about the smell of people whose diets are heavy in animal fats. I must be attuned to it I think.

Agreed absolutely kinkygirl. The only downside is exposing oneself to all the ignorance and smallmindedness that is out there as evidenced by comment sections such as this.

Some angry Vegan will react to these comments saying ‘See, see it’s true, look at all these murderers (normal humans that choose to eat a balanced diet), all saying it’s true, when science says the opposite’.
No, it’s just a reflection of the ever increasing woke journalism ( poor quality journalism) in today’s society.

Except for the well known Vegan Influencer who lost his company because he ate some salmon horrifying his followers but was unapologetic because he was was able to ejaculate again. And this is not forum that i am going to go into full science mode but as some one who in my main career has spent years studying seretonin that is a very loose interpretation at best and not exactly sure you plan to absorb all that vitamin A in your sweet potato without enough fatty acids that bind to it found in abundance in animal foods.

Omega-3 fatty acids are not exclusive to animal products. They are also in algal oil which is vegan plus there are veggies such as brussel sprouts as well as chia, walnuts, and a few others I think.

Most vegan I know (and I know many) are highly strung (passive and aggressive) virtue signallers. #notallvegans of course. They're also mostly fatigued and plagued with anxiety sometimes expressed both implicitly and explicitly. It's not a lifestyle that one takes easily. It requires research and adjustment. Most overcompensate with beans and pulses which while (as with everything) good for you (and the garden) in balance aren't the most aphrodisiac of foods. Also I've always wondered hoe vegans and vegetarians are with oral sex. I have an almost gastronomic delight enjoying the flavours, textures and phenomena of prepping, cooking, serving and enjoying pussy. (that was metaphorical. I'm not a cannibal!)
