What is a BDSM Munch? ... and why you should go to them!
So you've found yourself being interested in B.D.S.M. and Kink/Fetish play ... welcome to "The Darkside ... we have cookies!".
You are certainly not alone in your interest, these things have interested people for hundreds of years in the modern era and you could easily imagine for thousands of years before that although it was never called BDSM lol!
OK, you've found you are interested, you don't have to be deep into it, an interest is enough, but you don't know where to start looking for where to scratch that itch (and many people have had that itch for many years and then eventually try and scratch it).
This is where a "Munch" comes into it .... briefly a Munch is a social meet up in a vanilla (vanilla in BDSM terms is "non-BDSM") setting. Could be a hotel, a restaurant, a cafe .... somewhere public and ordinary.
They are always run very discretely so the vanillas have no idea what is going on - not everyone wants the world to know what they are interested in and YOU need to respect that choice if you go to a Munch.
Be discrete, the Munch organiser will have already provided a signal at the venue for you to look for so don't go stumping up to the group and in a loud voice say "Hey, is this the BDSM Munch?" ... trust us, you will NOT make any friends doing that, in fact you will instantly be shunned in the BDSM scene if that gets around. Discretion, respect for people's privacy, these things are expected from anyone in the BDSM scene.
"I see Munches for swingers, so why are you saying they are a BDSM thing?"
Because in the 90's the concept of a "Munch" was born in the States when a Mistress thought up social meetings outside of the BDSM scene where people could just be themselves and socialise and when pressed for a name it is reputed She just called it a "Munch" since it was late morning and near lunch for the first one ever (yes we know, that's a Brunch but we are talking about creating something unique and identifiable for the BDSM community at the time).
"Well if it's a BDSM Munch aren't people going to see all the kinky things people wear at BDSM events?" No, not at all, in fact wearing anything but everyday wear is not acceptable - it is a discrete social gathering in a vanilla venue, wearing kink gear and collars and carrying floggers and whips is never acceptable. Save all that for when you go to a BDSM Play Party event at a venue like Crystal Chateau BDSM Venue or someone's private house party you may be lucky to be invited to.
A Munch is an excellent way to meet the local BDSM community and network and quietly discuss the various interests people have and learn some more about what the scene is about, there really is a lot to explore and learn and it does actually start by meeting people in person.
No one is going to laugh at you for your fetish no matter what it is and remember it isn't all about sex either. BDSM and Fetish is frequently about very non-sexual play, sex does not have to be a part of BDSM for a lot of people and a lot of play types.
Don't be shy, BDSM events are always very welcoming affairs, we love to meet likeminded people like you!
Sitting there in front of your mobile or computer will never get you involved in the BDSM scene properly.
Keyboard warriors don't really get to experience the real thing and meet the real people in the scene .... and BDSM porn is absolutely nothing like what the real BDSM scene is about so find a Munch and meet the people and begin to explore what you find yourself interested in.
Crystal Chateau BDSM Venue is Queensland's biggest BDSM venue and council approved as well. We hold "Koffee'n'Kink ... a Munch" here at the venue each second Wednesday evening 6 - 10pm since we have our own coffee lounge and is an awesome and very welcoming and friendly way to meet the local Brisbane BDSM community and other newbies who are exploring just like you and see see a BDSM venue in a very casual non-intimidating way.
See our events here on AMM in the events section under "BDSM Kink Events" and read about the events and buy your ticket there (look for the Ticket button) in the event or in this Noticeboard post.
